Presbyterian Church of Palatine opens food pantry

In November 2020, The Presbyterian Church of Palatine began a new community ministry to provide food to families in need. The program was launched in partnership with CCSD15's Winston Elementary school. Initially 11 families have been receiving a variety of food items on a biweekly basis in order to prepare multiple meals from this new outreach mission.

The church provides nonperishable family meal items such as pasta, sauce, rice and beans as well as snack items in large enough quantities to last the family several days in order to help to alleviate the families' food insecurities.

As the food pantry mission develops and grows in 2021, there are plans to expand. The first broadening of the program will begin this month by providing backpacks full of meals to disadvantaged Winston students to bring home and feed their families for a weekend. It is hoped that a second expansion will occur quickly and allow wider outreach to the Palatine community. The church is hoping to work in partnership with other community organizations such as PADS to reach needed families and individuals.

The overriding goal of this mission is to serve the church's neighborhood and community by providing good nutrition to those in need. The church's hope is to promote health and well-being throughout the Palatine area in a manner that fosters individual dignity and reduces food insecurity for more families living among us.

If you would like to contribute to the church's pantry project either with a monetary contribution or by donating nonperishable food items, please contact the church office at (847-358-4650 or email office@palatinepres.com).
