Christmas Sharing event returns this weekend to Wheaton area

Christmas Sharing of Wheaton Warrenville is celebrating its 51st year. Begun by Bill Davisson, a teacher at Emerson School in 1969, the program is a community-wide effort to bring a nicer Christmas to hundreds of families in need in the local school district.

The project combines the resources of all 20 Wheaton Warrenville District 200 schools, hundreds of their families, area churches, as well as corporations, businesses and individuals. Families in need are identified by school social workers.

COVID-19 has changed the way the program will work this year, with the collections mainly virtual and distributions as drive-through. Due to COVID-19 restrictions, they are unable to collect, sort, or distribute clothing and toys. This fall, they took in monetary donations to purchase food and gift cards for the invited families .

Volunteers are needed at any of three distribution events: on Friday, Dec. 11 at Wellspring Alliance Church in Warrenville and Saturday, Dec. 12 at St. John Lutheran Church and Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Wheaton.
