Historic Downtown Long Grove Hosts Virtual 5k this January

Historic downtown Long Grove is hosting a New Year's Virtual 5k Run & Walk next month sponsored by Buffalo Creek Brewing and benefitting Orphans of the Storm Animal Shelter. From January 1st through January 31st, the Historic Downtown Long Grove Business Association invites all those who want to cap off the holiday giving season and start the New Year off healthy by running the "fluff out of 2020." The event gives participants the whole month of January to get their run or walk completed (January 1st, 12:00am to January 31st, 12:00pm). Registration is now open at https://runsignup.com/Race/IL/LakeZurich/HistoricDowntownLongGroveNewYearsDay5KVirtualRun.

Although this is a virtual run, the presenting organization, the Historic Downtown Long Grove Business Association, is still looking at it as a social event by encouraging community spirit by way of social media engagement. While racers might not be running as a group in person, they are nonetheless encouraged to participate online together. Participants are invited to set up virtual teams - whether it be friends, colleagues or family - and have anyone join from anywhere in the world. Winning racers will receive various prizes from sponsor Buffalo Creek Brewing, with the grand prize winner receiving a VIP Tour & Tasting for up to 10 guests at the German style brewery that now features an authentic Alpine Biergarten in the heart of downtown Long Grove.

To enter the New Year's Virtual 5k, participants need to first register online. Once their registration is complete, their running packet will be created and available for pickup at Buffalo Creek Brewing beginning December 19th (packet includes bib, number, goody bag, finisher certificate instructions and official race T-shirt). Then, any time after January 1st and before January 31st, racers need to go out for a 5k (3.1 miles) run or walk anyplace of their liking and use their phone or Fitbit or anything they choose to time themselves. After their run/walk, they come back to the main Virtual 5k website and submit their official times. Along the way, racers are asked to post photos from the run on their Instagram and tag @enjoylonggrove #HDLGNEWYEARSDAY5K.

More About Buffalo Creek Brewing:

Buffalo Creek Brewing is Lake County's only destination brewery located in the heart of downtown Long Grove (about 30 miles NW of Chicago). What makes the brewery a destination?
