Sign up for Palatine Library's Winter Reading Challenge!

Palatine Library's Winter Reading Challenge begins Friday, Dec. 15 through Wednesday, Jan. 31. Every year, the library challenges its members to help the community simply by reading. When the community reads a total of 10,000 books, a local organization of the library's choosing gets a donation from their sponsors.

This year, Palatine Library chose Elderwerks, Palatine, as the recipient. Napleton's Palatine Subaru, Palatine Bank and Trust, and Warehouse Direct will donate $500 each, making a grand total of $1,500. Elderwerks helps find assisted living and other elder care solutions for you and your loved one. They help older adults transition from one home to another or find the services they need to remain in their homes.

All valid district cardholders are invited to participate in the Winter Reading Challenge. Sign up by visiting palatinelibrary.org to log your books or visit any library branch where staff can help you. Recording books is easy when you download the Beanstack app and earn digital badges as you track your progress.

Those who complete their reading requirements get finishing prizes! Adults and teens receive a winter hat, and children (infants through grade 6) receive a fun, stuffed winter toy. These completion prizes are funded by the Friends of Palatine Library. Everyone who completes the challenge is also entered in a drawing to win prize baskets filled with gift cards generously donated by Biaggi's, Borne2Dance, Chick Fil-A, Culvers, Just Peachy Photography, Los Arcos Mexican Grill, Lou Malnati's, My FlavorIt! Place, Raising Canes, Salt Creek Park District, Taylor Family McDonald's, and Tievoli Pizza Bar.

Palatine Library is also inspiring you to give back in several ways this holiday season. On Monday, Dec. 11 from 7 to 8:30 p.m., Palatine Library members are invited to drop in and make holiday cards for Elderwerks clients and staff. Throughout the Winter Reading Challenge, the library is also collecting various personal care items for Elderwekrs clients including paper towels, facial tissue, napkins, toilet paper, razors, shaving cream, shampoo, conditioner, bar soap, deodorant, mouthwash, toothbrushes, toothpaste, and adult diapers.

The vision of Palatine Library District is to inspire connection, curiosity, and joy. The district serves approximately 90,000 residents predominantly within the communities of Palatine and Hoffman Estates.
