Auditions for 'Importance of Being Earnest' Dec. 7-8

Diverse actors ages 17 and older are invited to audition for College of Lake County's spring production of Oscar Wilde's "The Importance of Being Earnest," directed by CLC theater adjunct faculty and UW-Parkside faculty member Brian J. Gill.

Auditions start at 6:30 p.m. Monday and Tuesday, Dec. 7 and 8, online via Zoom.

Those auditioning should prepare a 60- to 90-second, memorized comic monologue from the late 1800s (Wilde's time period). A monologue from another Wilde play is acceptable. Actors must email a resume or list of roles and shows in which they've performed to crich@clcillinois.edu.

After the information is received, those auditioning will be emailed the audition Zoom link. For additional questions, email Gill at gillb@uwp.edu.

Actors only need to attend Monday or Tuesday auditions, not both. Callbacks will take place at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 10.

Rehearsals will begin Tuesday, Jan. 19, and will be held Monday through Thursday evenings, with an occasional weekend rehearsal based on actor availability and necessity.

Performances will be Friday, Feb. 26, through Saturday, March 6. Actors should ensure they are available for performance dates before auditioning.

All rehearsals and performances will be conducted within actors' homes via Zoom. Actors must be able to receive and have room for "set kits" for the production. This will be a fully realized production with costumes, props and virtual scenery.

"The Importance of Being Earnest" is hailed as one of the funniest plays in the English language. This brilliant comedy of manners follows the antics of two bachelors, Jack and Algernon, as they pursue true love and the perfect cucumber sandwich.

Both men take the alias of "Earnest" in order to capture the hearts of Gwendolyn and Cecily, but quickly discover that maintaining double identities is more challenging than they expected. When it all starts to unravel, comic mayhem ensues.

This production will be live streamed on Zoom. Performances will be at 7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday, Feb. 26 and 27; 2 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 28; 7:30 p.m. Thursday, March 4; 10 a.m. Friday, March 5; and 7:30 p.m. Saturday, March 6.
