Arlington Heights Rotary Santa Run goes virtual

The popular 5K Santa Run, sponsored by the Rotary Club of Arlington Heights, will be held virtually this year Dec. 5-20.

"The Rotary Club of Arlington Heights decided to host their annual major fundraiser virtually because of the pandemic and risks associated with gathering in large groups," said committee chairwoman Betsy Kmiecik. "The funds we distribute from this fundraiser help our local organizations that address critical needs of our community."

This family event has been one of the season's traditional events to kick off the holidays. Registrants can run (or walk) at the time and place of their choice. This year, a family rate option is offered, and the first 500 runners will receive a commemorative medal. Times can be submitted beginning Dec. 5.

For race details and to register, visit runsignup.com/Race/IL/ArlingtonHeights/RotaryClubSantaRun.

Santa suits that come with the registration may be picked up during the scheduled packet pickup held at Northwest Community Hospital on Dec. 4 and 5, or design your own.

The Reindeer Run continues this year virtually as well for children ages 10 years and younger. Traditional antlers and red nose for the little ones can be picked up during packet pickup.

The Rotary Club of Arlington Heights holds the Santa Run every year to raise funds for its community grants and service programs. As a direct result of the Santa Run, The Rotary Club of Arlington Heights has raised more than $250,000 to distribute to worthy projects in the Arlington Heights community.

Every year, requests for assistance are carefully reviewed. In 2020, the club's fund has already helped individuals impacted by COVID-19 through additional contributions to food pantries and provision of sanitation supplies to Northwest Community Hospital.
