Dist. 79 board earns governance recognition

Fremont School District 79's Board of Education is a 2020 recipient of the School Board Governance Recognition, as presented by the Illinois Association of School Boards.

The FSD79 Board of Education is one of 15 statewide to earn the honor this year.

"This is an extremely well-deserved honor for our board of education," FSD79 Superintendent of Schools Dr. Bill Robertson said. "I'd like to commend the board for its dedication and superior work in serving our district and its commitment to our students."

The School Board Governance Recognition program acknowledges school boards that learn and practice effective governance behaviors as identified in IASB's Foundational Principles of Effective Governance, through participation in and support for, board development programs and events.

The primary focus of the program is on full board development and participation rather than individual board member efforts.

FSD79's seven-member board of education is led by President Jason Bonds. He is joined on the FSD79 board by Vice President Mark Ponce, Secretary Gabriela Whipple, and members Michael Jandes, Shawn Killackey, Aga Macoch and Maria Simoncelli.

"The Fremont School District 79 Board of Education is grateful to earn this recognition from the IASB," Bonds said.

"We consider it an honor and a privilege to serve our community and are committed to continuing to help our students receive a well-rounded educational experience by supporting the district's mission to prepare today's child for tomorrow's world."
