Help your neighbors via Hersey High School’s annual Thanksgiving food drive

The format is different, but the work of helping the community remains the same, as John Hersey High School will conduct its 51st annual Thanksgiving food drive on Saturday, Nov. 14.

Hersey's SOS (Service Over Self) Club will collect non-perishable food cans by way of a one-day drive-through drop off from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Donors will drive to the back of Hersey High School - Door 36 in front of the tennis courts. Drivers will not need to get out of their car or even roll down a window; SOS students will collect cans from each vehicle's trunk. All canned food donations go to food pantries at Saint Alphonsus Church in Prospect Heights and Northwest Compass food pantry.

While SOS students will not - for public health reasons - follow their usual practice of providing individual bags to each house near the school to collect food donations, they will offer other means for people to contribute. Students will accept donations of $50 Visa gift cards, which will be donated to local families. In addition, money may be donated through the club's new website; the link will be available on the Hersey High School website this week. All proceeds go to families in need.

Hersey is located at 1900 East Thomas Street in Arlington Heights.
