Christ Church Oak Brook to host blood drive Nov. 16

After a successful summer blood drive, Versiti Blood Center of Illinois added additional blood drives this fall at Christ Church Oak Brook, located at 501 Oak Brook Road.

The next blood drives will be 2:30 to 7 p.m. Mondays, Nov. 16 and Dec. 14, at the church's Oak Brook campus.

"It is always the role of the Church to serve the needs of our community," said Peter Celauro, Director of Missional Living. "At Christ Church, this is core to who we are. But rarely do we get a chance to closely emulate Jesus' sacrifice in doing so. What a blessing it is to contribute to the health of others by literally giving of ourselves! I hope that everyone who reads this will join us in this wonderful opportunity to love our neighbors and save precious lives."

Due to COVID-19, hundreds of blood drives were canceled, and for the blood drives still scheduled donors numbers are down. Versiti works with more than 70 hospitals in the Chicago region to keep donated blood within the area.

To donate to a blood drive at Christ Church Oak Brook and for additional information, including a safety FAQ, the public should register first online at ChristChurch.us/blooddrive to reserve a donor time.

Versiti encourages donors to boost iron intake and hydrate well a few days before donating blood as well as get plenty of rest. Foods rich in iron include lean beef, chicken, turkey, dark leafy greens like spinach, or beans, cashews and whole grain and enriched breads.

To ensure donor safety at all donor centers and community blood drives, Versiti has implemented increased cleaning and disinfecting procedures based upon the Food and Drug Administration and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention guidance. In addition, Versiti requires all employees and donors to wear cloth face coverings. The temperature and clinical symptoms of all potential blood donors and staff is also taken.
