Huntley's Shepherd of the Prairie welcomes Arndt as youth ministry intern

Shepherd of the Prairie Lutheran Church in Huntley is pleased to announce that Kurtis Arndt of Lake in the Hills will begin as its Youth Ministry intern through July 2021. He will serve the church's confirmation and high school youth in growing their faith through story, reflection, service, and education.

"I have received the great treat of being raised in this church," said Arndt. "My first service at Shepherd of the Prairie was when I was 6 years old and my participation has included Sunday school, weekly Sunday services, confirmation and weekend retreats, high school youth group, and mission trips. I am grateful to back at the place where my faith journey began."

Arndt is a graduate of Valparaiso University in Indiana with a B.A. in Theology and Ministry and a minor in Communications.

At Valparaiso University, he served in the Chapel of the Resurrection as the president of LuMin (ELCA College Youth Group); a peer minister, and peer minister lead. During that time he represented the college at the 2018 ELCA National Youth Gathering in Houston, Texas; became a recipient of the Allen Scholarship, and a proud member of Theta Alpha Kappa (National Honors Society for Religious Studies and Theology).

In addition, Arndt's other areas of ministry focus in his studies include a summer internship at Journey Church in Huntley; a camp counselor at Lutheran Outdoor Ministry Center in Oregon, Ill.; a ministry coordinator at Lutheran Outdoor Ministry Center ; and internships at Christ Lutheran in Valparaiso, Ind., while serving as a student chaplain at St. Mary's Medical Center in Hobart, Ind.

"Kurtis will work to re-energize our youth and family program," said Bud Hansen, Shepherd of the Prairie Congregational Council president. "He is a young man that knows the power of Jesus and to have him come home to be an intern at Shepherd of the Prairie is truly a blessing."
