Northwest Suburban Woman's Club completes project for 'Free the Girls'

Looking to help provide an income for women who have been freed from sexual trafficking, the Northwest Suburban Woman's Club collected over 1,600 new and gently used bras for "Free the Girls" during the month of October.

"Free the Girls" is an international 501(c)3 organization that helps survivors of sexual trafficking earn a safe income by selling bras in the secondhand marketplace.

Uganda, Mozambique and El Salvador are three of the countries where the "Free the Girls" organization works to end sexual trafficking.

Club member Nett Manno researched and brought the idea to the club.

Northwest Suburban Woman's Club members, led by Therese Fuglaar, domestic violence awareness & prevention chair, reached out to other sister clubs, community organizations and businesses for support.

General Federation of Women's Clubs-Illinois 7th District, Carol Stream Women's Club, Wings, Soma, Nu-Vo Salon Suites, Benchmark Atlantic Healthcare, as well as families and friends, pitched in to help.

Going the extra mile(s), Manno did a day-trip to "Free the Girls" headquarters in Chesterton, Indiana, where she delivered the club's collection and a monetary donation.

The Northwest Suburban Woman's Club is a 501(c)3 philanthropic organization that supports local, state and national organization with time and monetary donations. The club is a member of the General Federation of Women's Clubs.
