Lake Forest-Lake Bluff Running Club cancels annual Thanksgiving Day run

For the first time in 31 years, the Lake Forest-Lake Bluff Running Club is forced to cancel this year's Thanksgiving Day run, one of the largest events in Lake Forest.

For over three decades, the running club has hosted this free event for the local community from the Lake Forest West Station. The only "fee" was a donation to the Northern Illinois Food Bank.

Over the years, the group has raised thousands of pounds of food and thousands of dollars for the food bank.

This year, the club has decided it is more important than ever to support the food bank, so it is setting up a program to raise funds. Because of COVID-19, the food bank is only accepting cash donations.

Members are reaching out to the community, especially those who have come out to run or walk in the past, to give generously to this cause. The demands on the Northern Illinois Food Bank have risen significantly. It is now distributing more than 9 million meals a month, 50 percent more than last year.

To give to this cause, visit www.lflb.org and click on "Donate."
