Glen Ellyn offers 2020 trick-or-treating guidance

Like so many activities and events that have changed this year due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Glen Ellyn residents can expect Halloween 2020 to look a bit different as well. Halloween is not a Village-sponsored event, so please use your best judgement regarding whether or not to have your children participate in trick-or-treating. To maintain public health and encourage residents to celebrate Halloween safely this year, the village of Glen Ellyn offers the following guidelines and safety precautions:

Residents interested in participating in trick-or-treating are asked to turn their outdoor lights on and/or place the "Trick-or-Treaters Welcome" sign at www.glenellyn.org in a visible area for trick-or-treaters.

Those who are not interested in participating are asked to leave their outdoor lights off and/or place the "No Trick-or-Treaters, Please" sign in a visible location to politely turn trick-or-treaters away.

For the safety of families participating in trick-or-treating, those going door-to-door are encouraged to wear face coverings at all times. Please maintain a safe distance from other trick-or-treaters and wait to approach a home until the previous group has left.

Per the Illinois Department of Public Health, as an alternative to door-to-door trick-or-treating, anyone who would like to distribute treats should leave individually wrapped candy or treats on a table, on their front walkways, sidewalks, or any outdoor space that allows for at least 6 feet of social distance from the door.

Individuals choosing to pass out candy are also encouraged to wear face coverings and gloves and are asked to pass out candy individually instead of inviting children to take a treat from a communal bowl.

Residents are reminded that suggested residential trick-or-treat hours on Saturday, Oct. 31 are 3 to 7 p.m.

For those seeking alternative activities to trick-or-treating, Scarecrow Row will line the streets of Downtown Glen Ellyn beginning Oct. 21 through Oct. 31. Join the fun and see the handmade scarecrows created by community members and the many decorated store-fronts.
