Barrington NSDAR Chapter Hosts Virtual Afternoon Tea

"No pandemic can stop the DAR!" declares Denise Doring Van Buren, president general of the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution, in her recent newsletter to members of NSDAR.

Reflecting that can-do spirit, members of the Barrington-based Signal Hill Chapter, NSDAR, boldly announce a "Virtual Afternoon Tea With Gov. Bradford," taking place via Zoom on Wednesday, Oct. 21, 2020, beginning at 1 p.m.

Due to measures to maintain health and safety, the chapter canceled its in-person afternoon Tea and Tea Basket Drawing, traditionally held in October at The Garlands of Barrington, and made the decision to take the entire program online.

William Bradford, Governor of the Plymouth Colony, who will be portrayed by Terry Lynch of HFK Tales, invites participants to an afternoon tea where he will share the story of the "Plymouth Pilgrims: The 400-Year Anniversary of the Mayflower Voyage."

Those who attend are encouraged to dress in their Mayflower attire or best outfit and fanciest hat, brew a cup of tea and join the Signal Hill Chapter for a fun afternoon.

Following the Pilgrims' story, the chapter will hold a live Tea Basket Drawing. Eight beautifully themed baskets are offered this year. Proceeds from the drawing will enable the chapter to continue its support of education, historic preservation, patriotism and conservation.

The Signal Hill Chapter, NSDAR, was founded in Barrington, Illinois, in 1972.

NSDAR is a volunteer women's service organization headquartered in Washington, DC. Since its founding in 1890, more than one million women have joined both nationally and around the world. Membership in NSDAR is open to any woman, ages 18 and older, who can prove lineal descent from a patriot of the American Revolution.
