Second Baptist pastor to say farewell Sunday

The end of a great chapter in the history of Second Baptist Church of Elgin has arrived.

On Sunday, Sept. 27, the Rev. Nathaniel L. Edmond will preach his final sermon as pastor of SBC.

Pastor Edmonds' final sermon is inspired from II Corinthians 1:8-11. The sermon title is "The Best Is Yet to Come," passing the pastoral pulpit to pastor elect, Rev. Patrick Parks.

This worship services promises to be filled with tears, cheers, joy, and well wishes.

The Second Baptist congregation thanks the pastor for his two decades of service. Please come out and worship with the church as they say goodbye to Pastor Edmond.

In late August, the Elgin City Council bestowed a key to the city to the pastor in recognition of his support for the community.

Second Baptist Church of Elgin has worked diligently within federal, state, and local guidelines to maintain safety for our church membership during the COVID-19 epidemic. The worship services conform to governmental safe distance guidelines, hand sanitizer stations are readily available, and a mask is required while in the church building.

Second Baptist recently elected the Rev. Patrick Parks of St. Charles to take over as pastor on Oct. 1. Pastor Parks is a graduate of Judson University with a bachelor's degree in Christian Ministries and Pastoral Leadership. He recently served as interim pastor for a year and a half at Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church on the west side of Chicago.
