St. Charles Jazz & Art Weekend swings back into town

The St. Charles Jazz & Art Weekend returns Thursday to Sunday, Sept. 10-13. The four-day event promotes live jazz music in different St. Charles establishments. An array of St. Charles venues will take part in each year's event featuring numerous jazz groups, including Grammy Award-winning saxophonist Frank Catalano.

Patrons can enjoy jazz music from lunch through the evening, with the opportunity to visit multiple venues as well as visit the many public art installations around the city of St. Charles. This year, there will be 14 venues, 28 jazz performances and 31 public art attractions.

On Saturday, Sept. 12, an art reception will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. at 116 Gallery & Mixology. The Cod City Jazz Combo will perform from 4 to 7 p.m. On display in the gallery will be paintings by Janice Rangel, Amy Furio and Michael Cane; and sculpture by Skeeter Aschinger. Featured artist will be violinist Alexandra Bryner.

The Art in Public Places project features an Art Tour. Download the Otocast App, which will direct you to over 25 pieces of art around the city, and will give you an in-depth look at that piece and the artist who created it. Check out the "Art in Public Places" at artinpublicplacesstc.com.

A drive-in concert will feature the Fox Valley Jazz Big Band from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday at James O. Breen Community Park. Purchase tickets for the drive-in concert at stcparks.ticketleap.com/concert/dates. Cost is $5 per vehicle.
