Mundelein Park District offers e-learning hub for kids

Mundelein Park & Recreation District has announced Mundelein E-Learning Hub, created to assist working parents with child care during their schools' remote learning period.

This program provides a safe learning environment for children in grades K-8 in Districts 75, 76 and 79.

Children will be put into small groups of no more than 15 and organized by school and grade level. Sites will be limited to a maximum of 50 students. Students will receive supportive help from experienced staff, allowing them to excel during required online learning.

Students' regular teachers will provide all remote learning, and children will follow their school's bell schedule.

"Running summer camp during the pandemic has given us the experience we need to provide a quality e-learning program. Our number one goal is to keep students safe. We will follow all COVID precautions as recommended by the IDPH and the CDC, including mask-wearing and social distancing," Recreation Supervisor Cheri Rehor said.

While safety is a priority, the park district also realizes the importance of social and emotional health. That is why the park district will also offer guided physical and enrichment activities along with time for free play.

"Our goal is to create an environment that is exciting and fun for children while encouraging their e-learning. We also recognize that many parents are struggling with the pressure of juggling their jobs and their child's schoolwork," Rehor said.

"Creating a program that students enjoy will help to alleviate that stress."

Mundelein E-Learning Hub hours are from 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. The weekly rate for this program is $150 for residents and $210 for nonresidents (in Districts 76 and 79).

For an additional fee, the district will provide extended care until 6 p.m. Registration is open. The program begins Aug. 27.
