Palatine Township and Lions Club to host shredding event Aug. 29

Palatine Township and the Palatine Lions Club will be hosting a free paper-shredding event and old glasses and hearing aids drive the morning of Saturday, August 29 at the Palatine Township Center.

“I am always impressed by this community and how we rise to the occasion to help one another through difficult times.” said Supervisor Sharon Langlotz-Johnson. “It's also a great opportunity to support those in need by donating to glasses and hearing aids to the Lions Club which is more important than ever right now.”

The event will be held in the parking lot of the Palatine Township Center, located at 721 S. Quentin Road, Palatine, from 9:00 AM until 11:00 AM. Residents will enter the lot off westbound Illinois Avenue and simply follow the signs that guide them through the parking lot. The event volunteers collect their shred items and donations. Due to the size of the shred trucks and popularity of similar events in the region, each vehicle will be limited to the equivalent of two banker box sized boxes of documents for shredding. “This shredding event is a great opportunity for residents to safely dispose of documents with sensitive personal information that cannot be thrown in the trash,” said Gianna Guskey, President of the Palatine Lions Club.

Residents should NOT leave their cars; volunteers will take the shred items and donations out of their vehicles. As a safety precaution, please follow the marked pathway through the parking lot. Event volunteers will be taking proper safety precautions by wearing PPE and practicing social distancing to every extent possible.

Documents will NOT be shredded on-site, but will be collected in sealed bins and taken to AMS Store & Shred's facility for destruction. An official certificate of destruction will be provided to each vehicle upon collection. Items collected for the Lion's Club will be recycled to assist those in need throughout the area. In addition to glasses and hearing aids, the Lions club also accepts old cellular phones, Keys, and Ink Jet Cartridges.
