Bartlett's Arts Festival replaced by outdoor concerts

When it became apparent that the Arts Festival produced by Arts in Bartlett for the past 18 years was not going to happen under current state COVID-19 restrictions, Arts in Bartlett came up with a new plan - offer free live, multicultural music and art in outdoor locations over a series of Sunday afternoons in August and September.

"This plan fills a need for live entertainment, much needed income for artists and performers, and attracts people to downtown businesses and restaurants," said Arts in Bartlett Executive Director Cecilia Green. "We hope visitors will tip performers generously and frequent nearby businesses while downtown."

These dates and performers are confirmed. Go to the festival page, www.artsinbartlett.org, to check for exact location and weather updates.

• Aug. 23: Tobias James, classical Spanish acoustic guitar, 2 p.m.

• Aug. 30: Fareed Haque and Goran Ivanovic Guitar Duo, playing jazz, classical, flamenco, and music from the Balkans. appearing with the MKD Trio: Katherine Hughes, violin; Dorothy Deen, cello; and Marie Bennett, flute. 2 p.m. at Banbury Fair's stage, 211 W. Railroad Ave.

• Sept. 6: Grupo Folklorico Quetzal and singer Edison Dayao with Songs From Around the World

• Sept. 13: Greg Herriges, guitar and Greek lute, Asian and Middle Eastern music

• Sept. 20: Ted Yoder, 2010 National Hammered Dulcimer champion, and Sarah Haag, marimba.

All are free and open to the public; however, the limit is 50 people with social distancing and face coverings required.

Artists and crafters who create works that are influenced or representative of a world culture or reflect "Americana" are invited to apply for a free space to set up a table or booth. Applications are on the festival Web page.

These free events are made possible by grants from the Village of Bartlett, the NEA Funds for Emergency Help through the Illinois Arts Council, the Chicago Federation of Musicians M-Hart Initiative, and the Chicago Community Trust.
