DuPage Forest Preserve District offers nature hikes, programs

Join the Forest Preserve District of DuPage County for two nature programs this month.

Native Landscaping — All About Plants:

On Wednesday, Dec. 9 from 7 to 8:30 p.m., learn about the benefits of native plants and how their root structures differ from ornamentals. Get tips and tricks, too, for planting natives in your own yard to attract pollinators and other wildlife.

Cost is $5 per person. The program, online via Microsoft Teams, is ages 18 and older. Register online www.dupageforest.org or at 630-850-8110.

Celebrate the Endangered Species Act of 1973:

On Saturday, Dec. 19, from 11 a.m. to noon, learn about the impact of the Endangered Species Act, enacted Dec. 27, 1973, and the difference it has made for many species, including Blanding's and spotted turtles.

Learn about their adaptations and what they need for survival. Then, discuss what people can do to help these species now and in the future. Meet our animal ambassadors and a get a behind-the-scenes look at how we care for them.

Cost is $2 per person. The program, online via Microsoft Teams, is for ages 12 and older; under 18 with an adult. Register online at www.dupageforest.org or at (630) 942-6200.
