College of DuPage Foundation, Motorola partner to support student first responders

The new COVID-19 First Responder Student Relief Fund at College of DuPage will provide immediate emergency financial assistance to COD students currently enrolled in first responder or front-line health care.

Distributed through the College of DuPage Foundation and made possible through a $50,000 grant from Motorola Solutions Foundation, the fund will provide aid for a variety of student expenses, including educational-related costs; food, toiletries and medications; and unmet costs due to loss of employment.

The fund also will provide scholarship money to students whose parents work as first responders or front-line health care workers.

“We are thrilled to receive this generous gift for our students,” said COD Foundation Executive Director Karen Kuhn. “This fund will positively impact those brave individuals who have chosen to work on the front lines to help ensure the health and safety of the community.”

Students seeking funds from the grant will be required to provide proof of first responder status.

Funds will be made available for fall applicants in August.
