Batavia's Water Street Studios returns to in-person classes with 'Artful Fridays'

In-person classes and workshops are resuming at Water Street Studios, 160 S. Water St. in Batavia.

New this summer is "Artful Fridays," designed for age 16 and older. For your safety, and in accordance with Phase 4 requirements, this workshop is limited to five participants who must follow social distancing and mask guidelines. Masks provided or bring your own.

• Hand-painted silk scarves are fun and easy to do. In "Create a Beautiful Silk Scarf," join artist Becka Davis in learning how to create your own custom scarf and leave with a colorful masterpiece to wear with any outfit. The program will begin at 7 p.m. Friday, July 17. A 20- by 20-inch silk scarf and all other supplies are provided. Cost is $45.

• "Create a Mixed Media Piece with Pebeo Paints" will be offered at 7 p.m. Friday, July 31. Let your imagination run free in this expressive workshop using Pebeo Paints. French manufacturer Pebeo offers a range of specialty paints that can be used alone or in combination to create striking abstract or realistic images. Cost is $40.

• In "Handcraft a Personal Notebook," participants will create a personalized notebook for any use. Choose your paper, organize and match patterns, and use a variety of tools and techniques (stenciling, stamping, painting) to design your cover. Use your notebook for journaling, notetaking, doodling, drawing, or give as a gift. The program will be 7 p.m. Friday, Aug. 7. Cost is $40.

• "Gelli Printing" will be offered under the guidance of mixed media artist Sabrina Martin at 7 p.m. Friday, Aug. 21. Explore this unique printmaking technique that uses plates made from a firm gelatinlike material. By layering stencils and textures, you'll create beautiful mixed media papers that can then be used to make a journal, notebook, or an abstract piece to frame. Cost is $42.
