Lombard Historical Society announces summer events

The Lombard Historical Society has announced its Summer 2020 Calendar of Events for adults, families and children.

Here's a quick look at some of what's happening:

• The society's Bring your Own Ice Cream Social Concerts will return with a performance by Jim Green at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 11, at 23 W. Maple St. Green is an acoustic guitarist who Billboard Magazine called "one of the best independent artists" whose music "transcends popular genre by creating fiery percussive driven solo finger-style acoustic guitar instrumentals."

The series continues at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 25, with Strum Chums, a guitar and ukulele group.

The Dairy Queen on Main Street again will donate 30 coupons for free Dilly Bars for each concert.

Concert reservations are necessary at lombardhistory.org or (630) 629-1885, as space is limited to 25 attendees. Participants are asked to bring their your own blanket or chair; masks and social distancing is mandatory.

• Participants can learn how to make crafts with kids from digital demos at 1 p.m. Tuesdays, July 7, 14, 21 and 28, via Facebook. Sun catchers, a thaumatrope, a Tic Tac Toe game and a train will be demonstrated. Staff members will be available to answer questions, a video will be posted on Facebook, and supply lists and instructions will be posted on the website at lombardhistory.org.

• Art@thePeck, in-person children's activities, will resume outdoors (weather permitting) at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 11 and 25, at the Peck Homestead, 355 E. Parkside Ave. Participants will try Flower Pounding and a mystery craft under the shade trees at the Peck.

Space is available for a maximum of 10 children, plus accompanying adult. Registration is necessary at lombardhistory.org or (630) 629-1885.
