Rep. Amy Grant launches Student Spotlight program

Inspired by news of young people doing good in their hometowns and beyond, state Rep. Amy Grant is creating a program to honor local students making a difference.

"So many of our young people are out in the world doing good deeds, undertaking service projects or making interesting discoveries that are changing our community, our state and our world for the better," said Grant. "I just want to take a moment to shine a spotlight on all the good happening around us and express my appreciation for their efforts - big and small."

Each month, Rep. Grant will post a brief shout-out on Facebook to a young person from the 42nd District who has contributed in a positive way to their community, the state or beyond. Parents, students, educators or other community members in the area are invited to recommend individual young people from 42nd House District to be recognized in the Student Spotlight for their positive actions.

"There is no shortage of good news coming from the good deeds of our young people," added Grant. "By showcasing their efforts, perhaps others will be inspired to take on a project or a cause that improves their community."

There is no formal application for recommending a young person for Rep. Grant's Student Spotlight.

Those interested in making a nomination should send a brief email to Grant@ilhousegop.org that includes the nominee's name, grade, school and hometown, and a short explanation of how they are making a difference.

Photos that can be included with the Facebook post are welcome and encouraged.

Submissions can also be mailed to Rep. Amy Grant at 416 E. Roosevelt Road, Suite 111, Wheaton, IL 60187.

"I look forward to reading the submissions and highlighting our community's young people through this positive project," said Grant.

The 42nd District includes all or portions of Wheaton, West Chicago, Naperville, Warrenville, Carol Stream, Lisle and Winfield.
