Head to Camp this Summer with the Northbrook Park District
The Northbrook Park District is keeping youth engaged throughout the summer with a fun variety of in-person and virtual camps!
In-person camps will follow the guidelines of the CDC, the State of Illinois and the Illinois Department of Public Health with small group sizes of less than 10 people, including campers and staff. In-person camps will be held at the Leisure Center, 3323 Walters Avenue, Northbrook Sports Center, 1730 Pfingsten Road and Meadowhill Park, 1479 Maple Avenue. Registration deadline for in-person and virtual camps is Thursday, June 4 at 5pm.
"We're happy to offer a great selection of camps this summer," said Katie Kotloski, Recreation Division Manager. "While we've had to make adjustments to our traditional summer camp programming, we're excited to meet the community's needs through this innovative combination of in-person and virtual camps with the quality activities you expect from the Northbrook Park District. We can't wait to see everyone!"
In-person camps take place Monday through Friday from 8:30am-3:30pm June 15-July 10 and July 13-August 7. Camps are open to youth ages 8-13 who can adhere to the Northbrook Park District's Appropriate Behavior Guidelines and camp rules. Age restrictions for in-person camps are due to the many safety modifications the District has made for camps and programs, which include requiring children to be at least 8 years old and in or entering 3rd grade. While physical activities and games are part of most programs, children of this age are more likely to follow directions and exhibit the necessary coordination to jump, skip, run and play while practicing physical distancing.
In-person camps include:
• Camp Creative, Leisure Center
With a concentration on cultural arts, Camp Creative incorporates traditional camp programming emphasizing individual skill development in a variety of activities including arts and crafts, outdoor games and challenges.
• Camp Get Up and Go, Northbrook Sports Center
Camp Get Up and Go incorporates traditional camp programming emphasizing individual skill development in a variety of activities including sports challenges and arts and crafts that take place inside and outside.
• Camp Action, Meadowhill Park
With a concentration on athletic activities, Camp Action incorporates traditional camp programming emphasizing individual skill development in a variety of activities including sports challenges that take place inside and outside.
Virtual summer camps take place June 15-July 10 and July 13-August 7 for ages 2-13. Virtual camps include:
• Camp Smiles (Ages 2-5) Monday, Wednesday, Friday from 9:30am-11:30am
Children will be engaged in songs, story time, arts and crafts and virtual field trips. Additionally, Camp Smiles offers enrichment classes including Fun with My Amigos, Young Rembrandts and Yoga. All arts and crafts supplies will be provided in a camp box.
• Little Sparks (Ages 5-7) Monday, Wednesday, Friday from 10am-12:30pm
Campers discover their hidden potential through virtual enrichment and team building activities. Theme days, virtual field trips and special guests will offer a variety of activities keeping campers engaged mentally and physically.
• Camp Connection (Ages 8-10) Monday, Wednesday, Friday from 10am-2:30pm
Join us at Camp Connection where we will take part in logic puzzles, team building, arts & crafts and physical activities at home! Activities are based on a weekly theme and include enrichment classes and virtual field trips. Staff will facilitate conversation to promote social interaction among the campers.
• Live Creatives Ages (8-13) Monday, Wednesday, Friday from 10am-3pm
Explore activities that foster and drive creativity through a digital platform. Campers will have the opportunity to develop friendships, make crafts, play games and share snack recipes through our virtual cabin. Campers will also engage in weekly activities with professional instructors and artists to gain real-world insight.
