Christ Community Church hosts no-contact food drive for Aurora Area Food Pantry

Christ Community Church held a no-contact food drive on May 6 for the Aurora Area Interfaith Food Pantry that brought in 22,690 lbs. of food at four drop-off locations. According to the food pantry, this will feed 200 families for a week.

The four drop-off points included the Christ Community Church campuses located in St. Charles, DeKalb, and Streamwood.

Christ Community's Aurora Campus used the food pantry itself as a drop-off point. Those donating simply opened their trunks for masked and gloved volunteers to unload the food and then pack boxes for the food pantry. Twenty-five volunteers ran this event across the four locations.

"I was extremely pleased with the response," said Community Impact Pastor Kris Eldridge. "People were really thankful that the church had put on a food drive for the community."

The church would like to host more events like this in the future, but until then, Eldridge recommends people reach out to their local communities to see ways they can help like checking on elderly, high-risk neighbors with a phone call, or assisting with meal delivery for the homebound.

"The best way we can help our communities is by serving our neighbors. We as a church have been in a season of loving our neighbors for quite some time," Eldridge said. "So, there is no time like the present to step in and love our neighbors well."

Christ Community Church started in 1984 as a group of six couples who met regularly for Bible study. Now, over 5,000 weekend attendees meet on four campuses in the western suburbs of Chicago: the Aurora Campus, the Streamwood Campus, the DeKalb Campus, and the original campus in St. Charles.
