Curbside pickup to begin at Schaumburg Library

Plans to phase in contactless services at the Schaumburg Township District Library will begin in June. Services will include curbside pickup, which is tentatively scheduled to launch at the Central Library in Schaumburg during the first two weeks of June.

Curbside services will begin at the Hoffman Estates and Hanover Park branch libraries in mid-June. Additionally, the library will resume delivery for current home delivery patrons within the first two weeks of June.

Starting June 1, patrons may return their checked out items to the book drop at the Central Library. Information on placing holds, utilizing curbside pickup and more will be announced in emails, in the newspaper and on the library's social media sites in the coming weeks.

Until further noted, all library locations will remain closed to the public, with only essential library staff on-site. These staff members will work staggered shifts starting in late May to prepare the building and materials for the new curbside service.

The library board, administration and staff are working to have appropriate procedures in place to ensure the safety of staff, patrons and materials. This includes ensuring staff maintain social distancing in the library, wear appropriate personal protective equipment, wash hands regularly, quarantine returned materials for at least 72 hours, and provide contactless service for patrons.

Since closing its buildings March 13, the library has been offering a variety of online services. Executive Director Annie Miskewitch encourages community members to take advantage of online programs, e-books and audiobooks, streaming movies and music, and learning opportunities.

All of these and more can be found at SchaumburgLibrary.org.
