Amazon Donates $200,000 to Greater Chicago Food Depository
Recognizing Chicago and its surrounding communities as one of the hardest-hit COVID-19 regions in the U.S., Amazon has donated $200,000 to the Greater Chicago Food Depository, a nonprofit organization dedicated to ending hunger throughout Chicago and Cook County.
Amazon's donation will help provide the equivalent of 600,000 healthy, nutritious meals to those in need and supports the Food Depository's ongoing efforts to address the increased demand for food assistance as a result of COVID-19.
"The impact of COVID-19 has created a surge in need. With schools closed and businesses shuttered, countless families are facing food insecurity for the first time in their lives," said Kate Maehr, executive director and CEO of the Greater Chicago Food Depository. "We are so grateful for the generous support of Amazon as we work to ensure no one goes hungry during this challenging time."
This donation reflects Amazon's commitment to supporting the communities in which it operates and partners with nonprofit organizations that actively make a difference in people's daily lives. In addition to its donation to the Greater Chicago Food Depository, Amazon is making donations to food banks in several other states, including Michigan, Ohio, and Florida.
"Amazon is proud to support the amazing work of the Greater Chicago Food Depository," said Dave Alperson, Vice President of Amazon Logistics. "We are committed to making a positive impact in the communities in which our employees live and work, especially during this challenging time."
