Graduation ceremonies canceled for three Barrington siblings

This spring was very important for the Vu family who reside in Lake Barrington because all three of the Vu children are graduating. Michelle Vu, 25, and Jennifer Vu, 24, are graduating from medical school and about to go to the front lines to fight COVID-19 at the end of May.

Michelle graduated from the University of Illinois College of Medicine early on April 10 to help with physician shortage during the current COVID-19 crisis. Jennifer is expected to graduate from the University of Missouri- Kansas City School of Medicine on May 18.

Their younger brother, Christopher Vu, 18, is graduating from Barrington High School and will be attending the University of Illinois at Chicago in the fall.

Christopher hopes to follow in his older sisters' footsteps and also become a physician. Unfortunately, COVID-19 canceled all three of their graduation ceremonies.

This was a very big moment for their parents who are Vietnamese immigrants and fled to America during the Vietnam War in search of a better life for their children. Sadly, they cannot see their three children walk across the graduation stage and the family will be watching all three Zoom graduations from their family room.

Michelle says, "We owe this to our parents' sacrifices and unwavering support." Michelle who matched into obstetrics/gynecology in New York and Jennifer who matched into pediatrics in Texas know how grave the COVID situation is are and are ready, now more than ever, to take care of patients and their families. Jennifer says, "We've been working so hard for this moment - to help patients who need it the most."
