McHenry County Historical Society offers Pioneer Activity Kits

Take home a free Pioneer Activity Kit from the McHenry County Historical Society and Museum in Union!

Step away from your screens and step into history for a hands-on pioneer adventure!

The McHenry County Historical Society & Museum is offering free pioneer activity kits for third- through fifth-graders. Children learn how to plan their pioneer adventure, pack a pioneer wagon, imagine and draw a new area to settle, grow a garden and even create pioneer toy!

The Pioneer Activity Kit includes an activity script and all materials needed for fun away from a laptop or video game.

To get your kit:

1. Email a request to Karolina Kowalczyk, volunteer and outreach coordinator, at karolina@mchenrycountyhistory.org.

2. Schedule a Pioneer Activity Kit pick-up time and date for a contactless pickup.

3. Pick up your kit outside the museum office at 6422 Main St. in Union, halfway between routes 176 and 20.

The museum and offices of the McHenry County Historical Society remain closed, as we adhere to the governor's stay-at-home order. The latest extension of that order means that the White Elephant flash sales (April 24-25), the museum opening (May 1) and the Ghost Town bus tour (May 23) have been canceled.
