College of Lake County announces passing of Trustee Timothy Powell

It is with deep sadness that the Board of Trustees of the College of Lake County District 532 (CLC) announces the unexpected death of Trustee Timothy Powell. Trustee Powell was elected to the Board in April 2019.

Dr. William M. Griffin, chair of the Board of Trustees, stated, "Tim's service over the past year was exemplary. He was an enthusiastic supporter of students and college events, and he attended several educational conferences as he eagerly learned more about his role as a trustee."

The Board of Trustees, College Leadership Team and staff members appreciated his warm personality and the opportunity to work with him to forward the mission and vision of the college. At the February 2020 Board meeting, Trustee Powell shared how proud he was to be a part of leading the college's efforts on behalf of students.

"We are shocked and saddened at losing Trustee Powell. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family at this difficult time," said CLC President Dr. Lori Suddick. "He served the College of Lake County well."

As a result of this news, CLC is making plans to fill this vacancy on the Board of Trustees. This is the second vacancy announced this year; the first was Dr. Catherine M. Finger, who announced her resignation in February. The individual who fills the vacancy for Trustee Powell will be appointed by the members of the current board and will serve as a trustee until a successor is elected to serve the remainder of his/her unexpired term at the next Consolidated General Election for open trustee positions April 6, 2021.

CLC is governed by a seven-member Board of Trustees elected by the voters of Community College District 532. To be eligible to serve as a trustee, applicants must be: (1) a citizen of the United States; (2) 18 years or older; and (3) a resident of Illinois and District 532, which includes most of Lake County, Illinois, for at least one year immediately preceding the appointment.
