Kane County Forest Preserve District announces safety closures and cancellations

With growing concern about foronavirus (COVID-19), the Forest Preserve District of Kane County announced a number of temporary closures, cancellations and schedule adjustments, as a precautionary measure.

Majority of the adjustments involve nature programming.

• Creek Bend Nature Center is closed to the public through month-end. (Open house showings on Wednesday evenings from 3-7 p.m. will go on, as scheduled.)

• All indoor nature programs at Creek Bend Nature Center will be closed through the end of March.

• All outdoor nature programs of less than 50 people will go forward, as planned. Any outdoor programs with 50 or more people, will be canceled, through the end of March.

• The March 17 showing of the nature documentary "Monty & Rose" has been canceled. Those with reservations are asked instead to attend the April 21 showing scheduled at the Barbara Belding Lodge at Brewster Creek Forest Preserve (6N921 Route 25, St. Charles).

• The District's Volunteer Appreciation Dinner, originally scheduled for March 26 in Geneva, has been canceled.

• The April 3 "Senior Stroll" program, originally scheduled for Rutland Forest Preserve, has been canceled. The next "Senior Stroll" will be Thursday, May 7, at Bliss Woods Forest Preserve in Sugar Grove, at 10 a.m.

Currently, all forest preserves remain open as regularly scheduled: daily, sunrise to sunset.

Creek Bend Nature Center is located within LeRoy Oakes Forest Preserve, 37W700 Dean St., St. Charles.
