HEParks enforces CDC disinfection directive

Hoffman Estates Park District (HEParks) begun a rigorous schedule of disinfection following the district-wide closure of all facilities to the public, after Governor Pritzker's March 13, 2020, announcement of a two-week statewide school closure to minimize COVID-19 spread.

While there have not been any incidents of COVID-19 exposure at a district facility, HEParks wants to assure patrons and community members that they are following the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) disinfection recommendations for coronavirus disease throughout the district.

The disinfection plan requires that all facilities be disinfected using a bleach solution following a deep and thorough detergent and water cleaning. The CDC recommends the use of a diluted household bleach solution or other EPA-registered disinfectants against the coronavirus. Disinfection, according to the CDCs Environmental Cleaning and Disinfection Recommendations, is using chemicals on surfaces to reduce the risk of spreading infection.

Initial phases of disinfection began March 14 at the five HEParks facilities with deep disinfection continuing through March 27 to assure that the buildings are safe for patrons when programming resumes.
