Lake County group celebrates helping people with disabilities

On Saturday, March 7, the Lake County Center for Independent Living held its 30th Anniversary Celebration at Concorde Banquets in Kildeer.

The evening was filled with excitement, laughter, and heartwarming support of the center's work and the consumers they serve.

Approximately 200 guests were in attendance. Of special note was the presentation of the LCCIL Community Excellence Award, given to the McHenry County Division of Transportation, which received it for their work to ensure access to public transportation for people with disabilities in McHenry County

Approximately 200 people came to support LCCIL and the continued fight for access and equality for people with disabilities.

LCCIL resolved that the upcoming years will provide greater improvement in the lives of people with disabilities and to lead the Lake and McHenry County communities to greater awareness.

The Lake County Center for Independent Living extends a special thanks to their keynote speaker, U.S. Sen. Tammy Duckworth, for her moving words regarding LCCIL's 30 years of service, as well as the 30th anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act.

The center also gives recognition to the sponsors of the event: Medline Industries as the lead sponsor.

They also thank AbbVie, Wipfli, Taproom, Libertyville Bank and Trust, Lake Forest Bank and Trust, State Bank of the Lakes and ITAC.

The center's work is made possible by the generosity of these sponsors, the many donors and the community at large.

The Lake County Center for Independent Living was founded in the same year that President George H.W. Bush signed the Americans with Disabilities Act into law.

The ADA ensures equal access to employment, education, telecommunications and public services.
