Hawthorn School District 73 Names New Principal of Elementary South

At the February 27 board meeting, the Hawthorn School District 73 Board of Education named Christy Hunter as the new principal of Elementary South. Mrs. Hunter is currently the assistant principal at Elementary South and will become principal on July 1, 2020. At that time the current principal, Dr. Jill Martin, will become the principal of Hawthorn School for Young Learners, the District's kindergarten building that is scheduled to open later this year.

"Over the years, Mrs. Hunter has proven her commitment to the growth and well-being of every child at Elementary South," said the District's Superintendent Dr. Pete Hannigan. "She played a key role in the school's successful effort to become a 2019 National Blue Ribbon School. She makes everyone-teachers, students and parents-feel welcomed and valued."

Mrs. Hunter has been dedicated to the field of education for more than 16 years. She served as the assistant principal at Elementary South for eight years. Prior to that, she served as a third, fourth and fifth grade teacher at Mundelein District 75 for eight years. She received a Master of Educational Leadership and Administration from Benedictine University as well as a Master of Elementary Education from Northeastern Illinois University.

Mrs. Hunter lives in Libertyville, Illinois, with her husband and three children.

Hawthorn School District 73 is a preschool through eighth-grade public school district serving more than 4,000 students. It serves all or portions of the communities of Vernon Hills, Mundelein, Libertyville, Indian Creek and unincorporated areas of Lake County, Illinois.
