PM&L Theatre to hold auditions for 'Angels in America'

Auditions for the Pulitzer Prize-winning "Angels in America: Millennium Approaches" by Tony Kushner will be at 7 p.m. Monday and Tuesday, March 9 and 10. Callbacks, if needed, will be at 7 p.m. Wednesday, March 11.

Auditions will be held at PM&L Theatre's Tribute Hall, 877 Main St., Antioch.

The director is looking for movement-oriented actors with the ability to speak in multiple dialects, and encourages actors to be familiar with the play before auditioning. All actors should be comfortable with staged intimacy, strong language and adult themes.

PM&L Theatre will be presenting "Millennium Approaches," the first part of Tony Kushner's "Angels in America: A Gay Fantasia on National Themes." The play is set in New York City during the mid-'80s and introduces the story of a gay man who abandons his partner when he contracts the AIDS virus and a pill-popping Mormon housewife and her closeted husband who has connections with the infamous lawyer Roy Cohn.

Other characters include a former drag queen turned nurse, a philosophizing rabbi, and an angel straight out of a Steven Spielberg movie.

"Angels in America: Millennium Approaches" opens at PM&L Friday, May 8, and will run Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays until May 24.

Rehearsals will typically be Mondays through Thursdays beginning at 7 p.m.

There will also be a reading of "Angels in America: Perestroika" Sunday, May 31, for "Millennium Approaches" ticket holders.

PM&L is a nonprofit, community-based, volunteer organization in Antioch.
