Choral Classic Invitational coming to Wheaton

One of the premiere show choir competitions in the nation - the 13th annual Choral Classic Invitational - will take center stage next month at Wheaton Warrenville South High School.

More than 27 groups from 23 schools from as far away as Mississippi, Nebraska, California, South Dakota, Ohio and Wisconsin will compete Friday and Saturday, March 13 and 14, at the school, 1993 Tiger Trail in Wheaton.

More than 1,000 students will appear on stage during the two-day event.

The show choirs will be judged on vocal skills as well as overall presentation. Judges will score the groups on choreography, costuming, pacing and flow, facial communication and poise.

Vocally, judges will look for excellence in tone quality, diction, communication of lyrics and interpretation.

The finals will take place Saturday evening and feature the top six groups chosen by the judges. The winner of the final round will be named Grand Champion.

Wheaton Warrenville South's two show choirs, Esprit and The Classics, will perform in five competitions this year. While they will not compete at the Choral Classic, fans can hear The Classics perform at 9:05 p.m. March 13 and 11 p.m. March 14. Esprit will perform at 5:55 p.m. March 14.

In addition, Electric Youth, the Edison Middle School show choir, will perform at 7:20 p.m. March 13.
