CLC offers affordable summer learning camps for kids, college classes for adults
Learning doesn't have to take a break this summer. Send your kids to college! Affordable STEM and STEAM camps at College of Lake County (CLC) are taught by experienced educators for children in first grade all the way up to high school. For adults, the three-week Intersession and eight-week Summer Session offer dozens of career and transfer courses for college credit.
Starting June 15 through July 30, half-day programs run Monday through Thursday. Each camp goes for one week and you can conveniently combine half-day camps for a full-day option. This year, camps are held at all three CLC campuses in Grayslake, Vernon Hills and Waukegan.
CLC offers more than 35 Explore camps designed for grades 1-8, centered around STEAM: science, technology, engineering, art and math. Every camper also sharpens their academic skills, including reading, writing and studying. This year's topics range from creative writing and digital photography to aerodynamics and digital fabrication. Don't miss the LEGO® camps for your master builder.
Older students in grades 9-12 can attend nearly 20 Engage career exploration experiences in nine fields, including automotive technology, broadcasting/radio, criminal justice, culinary, engineering, graphic arts, lasers/photonics/optics, nursing and healthcare and photography. From scrubs to chef coat, your high school student can see themselves in a career path this summer. New evening SAT Prep classes are also available to students.
The cost of each camp ranges from $175 to $250. A limited number of partial scholarships are available. In addition to summer camps, students and working adults can enroll in college classes beginning May 19. In just three weeks, complete an intro to biology or chemistry lab-only course during Intersession (May 19 to June 5) and then take the next level during the eight-week Summer Session. CLC created these new lab-only courses for reverse transfer students who have already taken a lecture-based course and need to quickly complete the lab requirement. Many courses are guaranteed to transfer to four-year universities, making this is ideal time for college students to catch up or get ahead while home for the summer. Complete one or more transfer courses at CLC, and you'll save money while earning credits that transfer back to your four-year school in the fall.
