South Barrington Garden Club Programs

The South Barrington Garden Club will have Laura Christensen speak about Lyme disease on Thursday, Feb. 6, at the South Barrington Park District Tennis Club, 5 Tennis Club Lane, South Barrington. Christensen and her family have contracted the disease and have done an extensive amount of research to talk about the myths and how to treat and prevent the disease that is so rampant in our yards and gardens.

The club raises money for scholarships majoring in environmental, gardening, landscape architectural and similar subjects. The club distributes two-three scholarships each year for a minimum of $2,000. Please go on the website for applications.

Other donations include youth education, local beautification projects, installation of a butterfly way-station and native gardens, local nature centers and others.

The garden club has 45 members and is open to new members, guests and walk-ins (no charge). The cost for membership is $25/South Barrington residents; $35/nonresidents. Meetings are held year-round at the South Barrington Tennis Club, 5 Tennis Club Lane, South Barrington starting at 9:30 a.m. on the first Thursday morning of the month and consist of educational speakers, hands-on projects and summer bus trips to points of interest in the area. Walk-ins are welcome at no charge.
