Race drones with DDC Chicago Quad in Schaumburg

DDC Chicago Quad will hold drone races from 5-10 p.m. Thursdays at Drink Nightclub, 871 E. Algonquin Road in Schaumburg. Races are held on a specially constructed course for experienced fliers.

DDC Chicago Quad will also introduce the sport to novices in one-on-one training.

Races and instruction for beginners will continue all night for a one-time daily fee of $10. Racers can compete in as many races as time allows.

Beginners will receive personalized instruction and the use of one of DDC Chicago's drones. Beginners can compete in the races if they so desire for an additional $10. Admission is free for spectators.

In the races, four individuals will compete at a time with their own Quadcopter - or "whoop" as they are called because of their incredibly small size - on a course through a series of hoops.

When a contestant hears their name called, they place their whoops on the starting line. Each pilot has two minutes to run as many laps as possible, and the fastest lap wins a cash prize.

Tristan Jones, a novice who heard of the company's first event, traveled from Chicago to learn how to fly.

"Scott made it so easy to learn the controller and put me at ease every time I crashed," she said. "These little drones are so resilient. After about 20 minutes, everything felt so natural and I felt like I could join the pros."

"After becoming an enthusiast myself, I wanted to bring first-person view racing, freestyle and Quadcopter entertainment to the mainstream in an accessible manner that was fun and engaging for everyone," said Sean Davenport of DDC Chicago Quad.

"From seasoned pilots to people who may have heard about it in passing and just want to check out the scene, we can accommodate everyone."
