Agape Connection honors Martin Luther King

The nonprofit Agape Connection will host its 19th annual Dr. Martin Luther King Day celebration at 12:30 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 19, at the Hyatt Regency Hotel, 1400 Corporetum Drive in Lisle.

Founded in 1991, Agape has been providing educational, cultural and other initiatives that impact the children and youth of the Western suburbs.

The program honoring the late Civil Rights leader will feature:

• MLK Character Award Honorees. Presented to African American high school junior and senior males with high moral character, volunteerism, leadership and visionary potential, the MLK Character Award is Agape Connection's way of celebrating the young men of our future.

• Oratorical Finalists. Selected high school students will reflect on leadership and what it means to empower those who are disenfranchised: by race, socioeconomic status, education, citizenship, health, age and more.

The celebration is open to the public. Tickets are $75 and include a buffet. Those who cannot attend the buffet are invited to attend the free featured program at 1:30 p.m.

For ticket information, call (630) 898-5333.
