PM&L Theatre to hold auditions for comedy 'Ripcord'

Auditions for the PM&L Theatre production of the slapstick comedy "Ripcord" by David Lindsay-Abaire will be at 7 p.m. Monday and Tuesday, Feb. 3 and 4, at PM&L Theatre's Tribute Hall, 877 Main St., Antioch.

Director Deane Jones, whose previous PM&L credits include "Calendar Girls" and "Young Frankenstein," is looking to cast the following characters:

• Abby Binder: Age 60-plus, all ethnicities

• Marilyn Dunne: Age 60-plus, all ethnicities

• Benjamin/Lewis/Clown: Age 30-plus, all ethnicities

• Scotty: Age 20-plus, all ethnicities

• Colleen/Woman in White: 30-plus, all ethnicities

• Derek/Zombie Butler/Masked Man: 30-plus, all ethnicities

Auditioners will be reading selections from the script. Arrive 15 minutes early to fill out audition paperwork. Be prepared to list any date conflicts for rehearsals and performances.

"Ripcord" is about the cantankerous Abby, who lives in a prime real estate sunny room on an upper floor in the Bristol Place Senior Living Facility. When she is forced to share her quarters with new arrival Marilyn, Abby has no choice but to get rid of the infuriatingly chipper woman by any means necessary.

A seemingly harmless bet between the women quickly escalates into a dangerous game of one-upmanship that reveals not just the tenacity of these worthy opponents, but also deeper truths that each would rather remain hidden.

"Ripcord" opens at PM&L Friday, March 20, and will run Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays until Sunday, April 5.

PM&L is a nonprofit, community-based, volunteer organization. For ticket purchasing, show announcements, news and more information about the upcoming season, call (847) 395-3055 or visit pmltheatre.com. They are also on Facebook and Twitter.
