New Philharmonic celebrates New Year's Eve with three concerts Dec. 31

Guest artist and lyric Opera Ryan Center sensation Annie Rosen joins New Philharmonic and Maestro Kirk Muspratt to celebrate New Year's Eve at the McAninch Arts Center with performances at 2, 5:30 and 9 p.m.

Following each performance, audience members will have the opportunity to join Maestro Muspratt and the performers in the lobby for a "Cookies with Kirk" reception and exchange best wishes for 2020.

Rosen's performances have been acclaimed as "fearless" (Opera News) and "soul-crushingly vulnerable"(Vocal Arts Chicago). Last season, the mezzo-soprano made her role and company debut as Adalgisa in "Norma" with Utah Opera, sang her first Suzuki in "Madama Butterfly" with Central City Opera, and debuted with Chicago Opera Theater in "Iolanta" and "The Scarlet Ibis."

In New Philharmonic's New Year's Eve concerts, Rosen will be featured in in "Mon Coeur" from Camille Saint-Saens "Samson and Delilah;" "Doing What Comes Naturally" from Irving Berlin's popular musical, "Annie Get Your Gun;" the World War II song "The White Cliffs of Dover" by Walter Kent with lyrics by Nat Burton; and Charles Dumont's "Non, Je Ne Regrette Rien" made famous by Edith Piaf's 1960 recording. Rosen also will lead the audience in a rousing singalong of the traditional "Auld Lang Syne."

New Philharmonic's 2019 New Year's Eve program will also include Johan Strauss Sr.'s "Radetzky March," Strauss II's "Blue Danube Waltz, op. 314," Hellmesberger's "Danse Diabolique," "Quadalcanal March" from "Victory at Sea" by Richard Rodgers, John William's "Luke and Leia," plus a few special surprises.
