Laurel & Hardy Film Festival comes to the Arcada's big screen Dec. 14
The historic Arcada Theatre, 105 E. Main St. in St. Charles, invites the community to the Laurel and Hardy Film Festival starting at 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 14.
The film festival includes four Laurel and Hardy films. It will feature organist Jay Warren as the live musical accompaniment on the historic 1920s organ.
Lunch includes Ron's Italian Feast with Italian antipasto salad, homemade cheese ravioli or penne pasta with “Sunday” meat gravy (meatless also available), Ron's meatballs, sausage and peppers, garlic bread and a cannoli to finish. Tickets are $25 for the festival and lunch or $10 for the fest only. It does not include online fees.
The 1929 silent film “Bacon Grabbers,” also starring Edgar Kennedy and Jean Harlow, will be shown. As sheriff's office attachment men, Stan and Ollie must repossess a radio from an uncooperative tough guy. The Chicago Bacon Grabbers, the local chapter of the Sons of the Desert, is named after this film and is celebrating its 50th anniversary this year.
The 1929 silent film “Big Business” also stars James Finlayson. Laurel and Hardy are door-to-door Christmas tree salesmen who get the cold shoulder from several potential customers.
The 1933 feature film “Sons of the Desert” also stars Mae Busch and Charley Chase. Stan and Ollie are members of a fun-loving lodge who sneak away from their wives to attend a convention in Chicago. The Sons of the Desert, the international Laurel & Hardy appreciation society, was founded and named after this film.
