Vernon Hills bookstore announces 'Rockin' Out' weekend

Barbara's Bookstore at Hawthorn Mall in Vernon Hills will host a special weekend featuring guests who know a thing or two about the world of rock 'n' roll.

From 6-8 p.m. Friday, Dec. 13, DJ Greg Easterling of 97.1 FM "The Drive" will talk about DJ life, classic rock artists and his favorite rock 'n' roll biographies.

Joining the panel will be photographer Jim Summaria and writer Mark Plotnick, local authors of the trending book "Classic Rock - Photographs from Yesterday and Today."

Summaria and Plotnick will discuss the acts featured in their book, Summaria's five-decade career as a concert photographer and their VIP adventure at the Rock 'n' Roll Hall of Fame.

As an added bonus, a gallery of framed concert photos from Summaria's yesterday and today collection will be on display throughout the store.

From 1-5 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 14, Summaria and Plotnick will be joined by veteran rock 'n' roll radio DJ Mitch Michaels, currently of 95.9 FM "The River."

Mitch will talk about his book "Doin' the Cruise" and dish insider stories from his four decades in the radio business. Books from both parties will be available for purchase and signing.

"Classic Rock - Photographs from Yesterday and Today" ranks second among "The Top 25 Must Have Classic Rock Books" at the website Mental Itch, and is part of the Rock 'n' Roll Hall of Fame Museum's Library and Archives used for education research and the preservation of rock 'n' roll history.

The authors recently partnered with the Illinois Rock and Roll Museum and will contribute decorative hanging window banners featuring photos of Illinois-connected musicians from Jim Summaria's extensive portfolio. Visit www.jimsummariaphoto.com.
