The 12-piece Jazz Consortium Big Band performs at the Morton Grove Public Library for a free concert of Big Band swing and jazz-rock music Sunday, December 15, 2:00-3:00 p.m. in the library's Baxter Room auditorium. The library is at 6140 Lincoln Ave., Morton Grove. Phone 847.965.4220, website www.mgpl.org.

The concert will feature a swinging mix of holiday favorites, plus ballads, swing and jazz-rock selections from the repertoire of such iconic Big Bands as Benny Goodman, Glenn Miller, Duke Ellington, Buddy Rich and Maynard Ferguson.

With a line-up of 5 saxes, 4 trumpets, 4 trombones and rhythm section, the Jazz Consortium Big Band was founded in 1975 by college music student friends with a love of Big Band music. The group performed in club and concert venues throughout the Midwest, including the Chicago Jazz Festival. The band members went on to prolific professional careers in the studio and on stage with a wide range of entertainers and Big Band icons, including Tony Bennett, Maynard Ferguson, Ella Fitzgerald, Benny Goodman, Woody Herman, Buddy Rich, Diana Ross and Frank Sinatra.

Currently the band--with mostly all original members--continues to share its love of the "Big Band sound" at clubs, concerts and special events throughout the area, bringing its variety of Swing, Latin, Jazz-Rock and Funk Big Band sounds to audiences of all ages.
