Mount Prospect businesses honored at annual breakfast
The Village of Mount Prospect's Economic Development Commission honored three local businesses for their commitment and contributions to the community at the village's annual Business Breakfast Thursday, Oct. 24.
Victoria in the Park Banquet Hall, 1700 S. Elmhurst Road, which was where the breakfast was held, received the Budding Business Award (less than five years in business).
Ted Mavrakis opened Victoria in the Park in 2016, providing the community with a first-class banquet facility to celebrate special events. Victoria in the Park provides gourmet dining and dedicated support to host a variety of events, including corporate events, charity fundraisers, parties, reunions, bar/bat mitzvahs and more.
The VIP Ballroom accommodates up to 400 seated guests, with ample room for community events.
Hearth and Home, 530 W. Northwest Hwy., received the Enduring Business Award (more than five years in business). Family-owned Hearth & Home has been located in the downtown district of Mount Prospect and has been in business since 1971. Its 5,000-square-foot showroom offers a selection of designer hearths, fireplaces, patio furniture and high-quality BBQ grills.
Three generations of the O'Donnell family have owned and operated Hearth & Home, serving as a retail anchor in the downtown for several decades.
Chokshi Filippone Law, LLC, 401 E. Prospect Ave., Suite 217, was the recipient of the Entrepreneurial Award. Chokshi Filippone Law, LLC, is owned and run by two innovative and dedicated attorneys: Augie Filippone and Trisha Chokshi. These two individuals bring high quality, personalized and affordable legal services to the community. They are also both very active in the Mount Prospect community in a number of ways.
Filippone and Chokshi recently began a new program series, "Lawyers at the Library: Your Legal Help Desk," at the Mount Prospect Public Library. The program offers free legal advice during private, 30-minute appointments on the last Wednesday of each month.
Chokshi holds "Community Conversations" regularly in the chamber office, discussing difficult topics and giving advice to locals. Filippone serves on the Planning and Zoning Commission. Chokshi serves as a member of the finance committee and also volunteers as a member of MP 20/30, a networking group for young professionals with a chamber and community focus.
Lastly, Chokshi serves as the chairman of the board of directors for the Mount Prospect Chamber of Commerce.
Also during the breakfast, Mount Prospect Community Development Director Bill Cooney gave a presentation on development projects throughout the village. Economic Development highlights included:
• Construction of Lake Center (1731 Wall Street-83 and Algonquin) 130,000 square feet of industrial space.
• Completion of 20 West (20 W. Northwest Hwy.), a 73-unit luxury apartment project
• Construction of Park Terrace Rowhomes (15-19 N. Elmhurst Ave.), 12 unit rowhome project.
• Construction of 10 N. Main (Central & Main), a 97-unit luxury apartment project
• Construction of Maple Street Lofts development (301 S. Maple), 257 apartments, 56 rowhomes, retail space, public parking garage.
• Relocation of police and fire headquarters, issued an RFP for redevelopment for current headquarters site, 112 E. Northwest Hwy.
• Opening of several new businesses at Randhurst Village, including Minta Restaurant and Social Lounge, McAlister's Deli, Club Pilates, Aligned Modern Health and DSW.
• Two proposed Senior Housing projects: Linneman Road (88 units) and Kensington Road (79 units).
• Upcoming opening of Mount Prospect Pointe (Rand Road) featuring The Tile Shop, Buona Beef and Texas Roadhouse, expected around Thanksgiving.
The Annual Business Breakfast and Awards are sponsored by the Mount Prospect Economic Development Commission, whose mission is to encourage and facilitate economic growth throughout the village and to advise the mayor and board of trustees on economic development goals and objectives.
The commission's main functions include business retention, business attraction and marketing of the village.
