Elgin Interfaith Thanksgiving Celebration Nov. 24 to feature special music

Join in an Interfaith Thanksgiving Celebration at 4 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 24, at Second Baptist Church, 1280 Summit St. in Elgin.

The celebration, sponsored by the Coalition of Elgin Religious Leaders, will feature participation from Buddhist, Christian, Jewish, and Muslim faith communities.

This year marks the 400th anniversary of the first arrival of Africans who had been taken into slavery, who were brought to Jamestown, Virginia in 1619.

Reflecting on both the dreadful past of slavery and yet the reasons for all Americans to be thankful will be Second Baptist's minister Rev. Nathaniel Edmonds and Advocate Sherman Hospital chaplain Rev. Neris Diaz-Cabello.

The service also will feature music from Second Baptist Church, St. Laurence Catholic Church, and the musical group Luz de Ande.

The offering from this service will go to support the Ecker Center for Mental Health in Elgin, which provides mental health services to the Elgin community.
