South Elgin Parks offers winter camps, dance classes and more

South Elgin Parks and Recreation offers a variety of programs this winter. For information, call (847) 622-0003 or visit www.southelgin.com/recreation.

• Winter Break Camp: Join South Elgin Parks & Recreation Department for good winter fun indoors and out. The camp offers field trips each week. Lunch will be included daily. The camp will be held Dec. 23, 26-27, 30-31, and Jan. 2-3. The cost is $30 for residents and $33 for nonresidents per day. Camp will be held from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the municipal annex. AM Care and PM Care are available at an additional cost; there will be no PM Care on Dec. 31. The child must bring a snack and drink. If the minimum number of participants is not met for one particular day, only that day will be canceled. The registration deadline is Dec. 13. A $20 late fee will be issued after that date.

• Zumba Kids: This is an opportunity for boys and girls, age 7 to 11, to be active and jam out to music. Classes feature kid-friendly routines. They break down the steps, add games, activities and cultural exploration elements into the class structure. Help develop a healthy lifestyle and incorporate fitness as a natural part of children's lives by making fitness fun. Classes incorporate key childhood development elements like leadership, respect, team work, confidence, self-esteem, memory, creativity, coordination, and cultural awareness. This class will be held from 5 to 6 p.m. Thursdays, Dec. 5-19, at the Municipal Annex. The cost is $27 for residents and $36 for non-residents.

• Dance classes for Social Dancing: James and Mary Rees Freeman have years of ballroom dance experience that lends itself perfectly to teaching the basic ballroom dance skills needed so you have the confidence to get out on the dance floor at your next wedding or holiday party. Participants will warm up and review swing steps. This class will be held from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesdays, Dec. 4 and 11, at the Municipal Annex. The cost is $15 for residents and $20 for nonresidents. Please wear comfortable clothing and bring a water bottle.
