Arlington Heights Garden Club awards three $2,000 scholarships

Each year, the Arlington Heights Garden Club awards one or more $2,000 academic scholarship to assist local students.

The club has awarded 31 academic scholarships to outstanding students since 2003. Students living in Arlington Heights and adjoining communities are eligible to apply. Proceeds from the annual Garden Walk are used to fund the scholarship program.

The $2,000 Marolyn Bina Memorial Scholarship was awarded to Ashley Roscoe.

Roscoe graduated from Hersey High School in 2017. She is now entering her junior year at the University of Wisconsin at Whitewater, where her goal is to become a Fish and Wildlife officer. This is her third Arlington Heights Garden Club scholarship. Roscoe is majoring in environmental science with a certificate in GIS.

The $2,000 Gilbert Krohn Memorial Scholarship was awarded to Matthew Hoffman.

Hoffman graduated from Wheeling High School in 2017. He is now a junior majoring in biological and agricultural engineering at Texas A&M University. This is Hoffman's third Arlington Heights Garden Club scholarship. In his sophomore year, he earned a 3.7/4.0 GPA, qualifying him as an Engineering Honors Student.

The $2,000 Wendy Landwehr Memorial Scholarship was awarded to Marlena Kot.

Kot graduated from John Hersey High School in 2019 with a 4.45/3.83 GPA. During high school, Kot completed 10 Advanced Placement classes and received recognition as a QuestBridge National Scholar and an AP Scholar with distinction. She was also a member of the World Languages Honor Society and the National Honor Society.

Kot will be studying chemical and environmental engineering at the University of Michigan at Ann Arbor.

The Arlington Heights Garden Club meets the fourth Monday of the month. Details on the scholarship program and monthly meetings are available on the club's website at ahgardenclub.com.
